Lost

"Lost" is a word that sounds bad. People don't like being lost, neither do they like things getting lost. Seeing someone lost makes us want to help them. Being lost in thought may be the only positive exception.

Recent weeks we would be justified to feel lost. The world around us took up new rules, which we may not know how to cope with – we may be lost in them. We need to find out how to live our lives, and get used to it, figure out new ways to spend time and kill boredom.

My solution is to get lost, in a physical sense. Germany still allows taking walks and exercising, so I often put on my shoes and go. but where? If I was aiming to get somewhere, there would be little point, as everything is shut down. So I set myself some vague destination, say, the windmill in the forest, and set out without much deliberation, in order to get lost along the way. Even though the forest isn't huge, I end up finding a new track and new places every time I go, making the trip interesting enough to try again tomorrow.

Wouldn't life be boring if we always chose the same path?
